In the Maxim-Gorki-Straße, which runs parallel to the Strandpromenade, is this small but nice Museum of Regional and Literature History situated. The house was visited by well-known people such as Maxim Gorky, Aleksey Tolstoy and Feodor Chaliapin.
After the Second World War, the Villa Irmgard was set up as a memorial to Maxim Gorky and named it "Maxim-Gorki-Museum“. One can take a look at his living and working areas, which are furnished in the style of the time. Some of the furnitures are original pieces. The permanent exhibition also remembers other prominent guests of the villa and Heringsdorf. Apart from information about regional history, the visitor awaits special exhibitions, book readings, small concerts and theatre productions. On show are also artist's exhibitions that change monthly.
